FOX40: Day Without A Gay

“We’re your neighbors. We’re you’re friends. We work for you. We work with you and we’re not going anywhere.” Jade Baranski is taking a stand. She’s one of many people who won’t be showing up to work Wednesday. It’s being called “A Day Without A Gay.” “I don’t know how many people will actually stay home, but I think people are talking about it and that’s the first step,” said Lester Neblett with the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center. The move is in response to the passage of Proposition 8, the gay marriage ban.

Though the rallies and marches have died down, gays and lesbians say, the fight is still strong. Sean Hetherington, co-founder of A Day Without a Gay, said, “The message we’re trying to send first is to our own community. Though we’ve been hopeless and down about Prop 8, we’re hopeful and headed in a positive direction.” Instead of just staying home from work, people are being encouraged to volunteer at non profit organizations.
