Gay Man Assaulted in Midtown Thurs, June 19
Sorce: Community Email From Sacramento Stonewall Democrats, Rainbow Chamber, Gay & Lesbian Center
A gay man was assaulted on Thursday, June 19, at approximately 1:45 a.m. while walking alone after leaving a Midtown bar near 20th and J streets. He was hospitalized with injuries and released from the hospital on Friday afternoon. The attackers are believed to be three or four white males, according to witnesses who observed the attack. The attackers allegedly used homophobic slurs during the attack. The victim also was robbed. The attack is not believed to be related to earlier hate crime attacks that have occurred in recent weeks, according to Capt. Darrell Fong of the Sacramento Police Department. Our LGBT community currently is the focus of increased visibility and media attention, particularly during this time of Pride celebrations and due to the recent California Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriages. We regret that this joyful season has been marred by violence and hate, and remind you to remain vigilant and stay safe.
